History of Youth on Mission

The history of Youth On Mission has been an exciting story of how God has developed a ministry from nothing.

In 1992, three youth ministers asked Dr. Fowler to plan a mission trip that would involve several churches.  The idea - each church would have their own mission assignment, would have time for large group activities, and would interact with the total group.  Realizing that meals and lodging are always a hassle, the youth ministers asked Dr. Fowler to take care of these details.  The first mission trip was planned to address these concerns.  Baltimore was chosen for the very first mission trip because of need, location, and available facilities.  127 youth & adults from 7 churches participated.  The mission experience was very positive for both participating churches and the missions we helped.

We discovered that by providing housing for mission teams, it was now possible for mission churches to host teams and not have to worry about meals and lodging.  Youth ministers also appreciated this concept, as they now could spend their time doing missions with their youth team.

Since our beginning in 1992, YOM has taken 55,000+ participants on mission trips and we have seen literally thousands of professions of faith.  We have put together mission trips to Atlanta, GA; Baltimore, MD; Buffalo, NY; Chicago, IL; the North Carolina coast; Dallas, TX; Denver, CO; El Paso, TX; Idaho Falls, ID; New Orleans, LA; Philadelphia, PA; St. Louis, MO; San Francisco, CA; Los Angeles, CA; Oahu, HI; Washington, DC; Hamilton & Toronto, Canada; and nearly a dozen cities throughout Appalachia.

FUNDING:  Youth On Mission is a non-profit organization governed by a board of directors.  Each person attending pays a fee.  Expenses are paid from these fees.
